The Nursing Officer Recruitment Common Eligibility Test (NORCET) is one of the most important competitive examinations in India for nursing graduates. Conducted by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, this exam serves as the gateway for recruitment of Nursing Officers in AIIMS and other central government hospitals across the country. What is NORCET?
NORCET is a national-level entrance-cum-recruitment examination that shortlists eligible candidates for the post of Nursing Officer in AIIMS and affiliated institutions. The test was introduced to streamline the recruitment process and create a single eligibility exam instead of multiple institution-level tests.
Eligibility Criteria
Candidates must meet the following requirements to apply for NORCET:
Educational Qualification:
B.Sc (Hons.) Nursing / B.Sc Nursing / Post-Basic B.Sc Nursing from an INC-recognized university, OR
Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) with at least 2 years of experience in a 50-bedded hospital.
Registration: Must be a registered Nurse and Midwife with the State/Indian Nursing Council.
Age Limit: 18–30 years (age relaxations as per government rules).
Exam Pattern
NORCET is conducted in online mode (CBT) and evaluates candidates on both professional knowledge and general aptitude.
Mode: Computer-Based Test (CBT)
Duration: 3 hours
Number of Questions: 200 MCQs
Marks: 200 (1 mark each)
Negative Marking: -1/3 for every wrong answer
Distribution of Questions
Nursing Subjects (Core): 180 questions
General Knowledge, Aptitude, and Basic English: 20 questions

Selection Process
Candidates are shortlisted based on their performance in NORCET.
